Coaching

Coaching is an ongoing partnership between the coach and the individual who wishes to take action toward the realization of his/her dreams and goals. "To coach" comes from the root meaning "to bring a person from where they are to where they want to be." Coaching provides a structure and a process of questioning to raise the individual's level of awareness and personal responsibility.

Why do some respond to the coaching and others do not?   Intelligence, talent, and motivation are only part of the answer.  The answer I have come to believe is twofold.  First, all lasting change involves a change in beliefs, not just behavior.  Second, the quality of help along the way can make all the difference.

First, we will spend time identifying what beliefs and attitudes you possess that are blocks to your success.  We will next develop specific goals, along with action steps, that will help you digest the change process.  We will also discuss what skills, knowledge, and experiences you need in order to fully develop personal mastery.  I will use a multitude of different approaches -- career testing, 360 degree review and role-playing are just a few.  Actual observation and feedback sessions can be arranged.

Dr. Lachman offers coaching in the following arenas:
  1. Career Coaching. Her focus is on helping individuals find the best fit for their dreams, skills and values. Career assessment instruments can be utilized.

  2. Relationship Management. Whether the improvement desired is with a boss, employee, peer or loved one, communication and negotiation strategies are required. Self-assessment instruments include both communication and personality inventories.

  3. Correcting Performance Problems. Sometimes the issue is improving interpersonal relationships, other times it is managing multiple priorities or facilitating team development for maximum results and morale. Whatever the focus, Vicki helps provide direction by recommending a multitude of resources -- courses, books and practice or stretch assignments.

  4. How to Effectively Coach Others. Many leaders need help in developing the art of questioning and providing observational feedback. Also, coaches need to know how to determine stretch and homework assignments, as well as holding people accountable to their goals.
